AVG8 Free Update Failed: Invalid CTF File!

When i’m try to update my AVG8 Free, I got error message: Invalid Update Control CTF File

Even if I tried to update again, I still got the error message, so I tried to search Google and found the solution from here:

The Solution:

  1. Go to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Dataavg8updatedownload or search *.ctf from the start menu > search
  2. Delete avginfoavi.ctf and avginfowin.ctf
  3. Try to update again, it should be OK

That’s all.

  1. >>There is no update folder
My PC is Windows XP SP2 and the files is located in C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Dataavg8updatedownload

Maybe you must turn on Show Hidden Files and Folder and Display the contents of System Folders in the Folder Option at Control Panel ( and turn off Hide protected operating system files and Hide extensions for known file types)

or you can just click Start -> Run, and type this: cmd
and type again in the console:
del “C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Dataavg8updatedownload*.ctf”

  2. >>Delete files as directed- next time update attempted, ctf files reappear- then try to delete while update is in progress and message appears- internet connection failure, even though the connection is fine

ctf file is used for controlling the update process, don’t delete them WHEN update is in progress.

After deleting them, try to update again. If you get the ctf error, just wait few hours and update again

  3. Delete files as directed- next time update attempted, ctf files reappear- then try to delete while update is in progress and message appears- internet connection failure, even though the connection is fine
